'cause happily ever after's what you want

There are scenes from Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist that I absolutely love--love and envy, adore and detest, attempt to ignore but can't get enough of.

The first one is at the Electric Lady recording studio, fictionally owned by Norah's record industry big shot dad. During an earlier scene at a convenience store, Norah and her frienemy/Nick's cunt of an ex-girlfriend Tris, discuss Norah's rumored incapability to reach an orgasm. Her defensive reaction is pretty much a giveaway that the rumor is true, and later on admits to Nick that she's never been with anyone else but her douche ex-boyfriend Tal...

...back to the recording studio scene. Norah asks Nick to record one of the original songs she really liked from a mix cd he previously made for Tris. Instead of being able to record the track, they end up having a moment, making out with mucho gusto and doing it on the studio's couch with the recording system still turned on. Norah is heard climaxing through the sound equipment. I couldn't help but be moved by this yet at the same time be irritated by the fact that I haven't had a moment like that one--and the miserable thought that I could possibly miss out on those kinds of moments for the rest of my life.

The next one is when Nick and Norah, despite finding the location of Where's Fluffy's down low after hours gig, decide to miss the band's set and instead spend time with one another. As they descend down the escalator at Penn Station, the scene slows down and focuses on Nick, with Norah jumping into his arms, and the two sharing arguably one of the most romantic kisses I've seen in movie history. It was beautiful. Again, the same kind of envy and admiration, and the desire to share something as blissful and passionate with someone (ideally my boyfriend, no doubt!), washes through me whenever I watch this part.

I hate movies for making real life seem so stale, sinister and sorry. Then again, these are the kinds of alternative realities, and made up infinite moments, that keep me from being entirely hateful and hopeless.

P.S. As much as I love Butch, Nick and Norah is just too good to be true. Yes, I've managed to be jaded even about love and relationships now. I suck.

Lia, Booch made me watch this because he had a private joke about Tal. Ask him, he's mean.

My favorite scene was when Norah and the skanky manipulative ex-girlfriend were talking in the conveniece store. Outside, Nick was with his gay friends and one of them took his hand. Said something along the lines,

"The Beatles! It's not about marriage... yadayadaya. Sometimes, they just 'wanna hold your hand.'"

:) I just came across your bloggie now. I will link.
