Erin is Golden + can my life be any more drab.

Due to unforeseen and very unfortunate events, my family's Hong Kong trip has been moved to the third week of May. My mom had to fly to the US asap, which means me and my sisters have been left here in Manila to bask in our boredom + our dad's weird antics and lousy old man jokes. Anyway, I've been attempting to entertain myself through various means. The most prominent one is by obsessing over cybercelebs/really awesome famous folks I enjoy stalking such as...

...Erin Wasson. She's a reluctant supermodel, stylist, designer (check out her collaboration with RVCA) and badass bitch that no one would ever want to mess with. She's so amazing that I sometimes dream about what it would be like having her as an older sister, or a best friend. I know that's weird but she's golden like that.

Here's a photo post that'll serve as a testament to how cool cool cool this woman is.

How can someone with charisma bigger than the state of Texas (incidentally her home state) actually exist? Erin Wasson wins at life, and we the common folk can only dream of being half as hot, own a flat as nice as hers, and have as much cash, talent and success and life prowess as this girl of the moment.

Oh, my bad for making this an after thought, but you should really check out her line. She has awesome basics+casual chic items that seem to be made with the most comfy fabrics and fit great. Rumi has been sporting some of the swag she scored from the launch. The blazers, vests, breezy tanks, silver shorts (!!! :]) and other pieces are genius. Visit the RVCA site and see for yourselves!

By the way, advanced Happy New Year to you all. I hope you party it up with your loved ones as I try to make the most out the last day of '08 by watching 80's and straight-to-dvd flicks on Youtube while drinking a Red Horse grande or two...because I am so hardcore. And boring. Blahhh. Anyway, enjoy the festivities! :)

P.S. As a late birthday/Christmas present, would anyone mind scoring me a copy of

?...A couple of good reviews have left me curious and excited. After all, who doesn't have a love+loathe thing for MK and A?

Christmas greetings + Rob Pattinson rockin' the new 'do

I'd like to start off by wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas!I hope you guys enjoy whatever festivities you might be having today with your families. For those who are basically celebrating Jesus' cumpleanos at home like me, just make the most out of your day and keep the cheery spirit alive!Ho ho hooooowho am I kidding?Haha. I've never been a "Ohemgee it's Christmas share the loveeee..." type of person, because this day meant for celebrating has never really been a momentous occasion for me and my family. Still, I seriously hope you all enjoy and tone down the bitch vibe for at least today. I hope that message counts for something haha!...

...On an unrelated-to-Christmas note, Rob Pattinson (of Cedric Diggory and Twilight fame), has decided to let go of his former supposedly-Edward-Cullen-but-more-like-Carrot-Top-on-a-bad-hair-day hairstyle by cropping his mane into a sleek crew cut.

Here's the visual:

In my opinion he looks at least 50% better. He looks dashing, like he just came straight out of a GQ cover shoot or a period film. I really don't understand why the prepubescent Twilighters are shunning this improvement. If they imagined his old hair to be anything close to Edward's, good goddd....

This haircut has really changed the way I see RPatz. Thanks to the new look, I now find him attractive in certain photos and on certain occasions (like when he's drunk, stumbling towards his car with a cigarette in one hand and signing an autograph for an 11 year old wailing fan with the other. I just think his new hair makes him so much hotter when placed in such a situation :P ). Also, the whole Rob Pattinson haircut "issue" reiterates two things: a.) Never underestimate the power of a hair makeover; your hairstyle can either make you look golden...or like rust falling of a water pipe (-_-) , and b.) Twilighters are such geeks that they do not engage in social activities other than anything involving the Saga and the film franchis...which is why Rob Pattinson is now being condemned for not wanting to have crappy hair anymore. Man. Remind me why I'm so obsessed with the series? Tsk tsk.

That's it for now. I just felt like blabbing as I continue to be antagonized by my lack of sleep. Maybe now's the time to try and catch some zzz's.

Again, have a happy Christmas day, buddies. :)

***UPDATE

Okay so my mom woke me up during the second hour of my toss-and-turn affair, and I was about to whine "ten minutes nalang, pleaseeeee PLEASEEEE" when a familiar face popped into my doorway. It was my yaya Tasyon, the yaya who had patiently and painstakingly taken care of me up to the time I was 12 or 13. When she found me there, definitely much bigger than she'd probably expected and of course a completely full grown person now, she hugged and me began to cry, and even if I had just woken up it wasn't difficult for my tears to flow out in sync with hers.
The kind of connection this woman and I have is something that cannot be matched. I feel like she genuinely knows me and is even somewhat proud to see that I turned out pretty alright. This is the woman who served as my mother's second set of eyes, ears, hands, feet...and maybe even an extension of her heart, because she really did love me like I was her own. She changed my diapers, rushed me to hospital after I bit a thermometer (long story), walked behind me for four hours the first time I decided to "run away" and wrote to me every Christmas and birthday since she left our family.

My yaya Tasyon is testament to the fact that behind every strange, hormonal and halfway decent girl is a great yaya. Merry Christmas to your yayas, as well!Make sure you make them feel the love and appreciation they deserve. :)

Pictura

I figured I needed a break from words for at least a couple of minutes (with the paper+reading-filled past term, thesis analysis coming up, and my incessant attraction to the pages of Madame Bovary) , albeit this post does partly consist of text. I don’t think this should count, since I’ll spare you from word overkill and let the photographs do the talking. Yes, photographs. Pictura makes that subject overt enough. Other than my love/hate thing with words I've been having (I personally blame it on my course), I’ve been encountering a lot of online portfolios, photo essays, and even fashion spreads that have seriously locked down my attention. I know nothing about photography, but some of these photos have really left me in awe--the kind of awe that seems impenetrable. I want to pierce through it without over thinking the photos and ruining what they’re meant to capture. Anyway, here are the two collections I've been returning to over and over again.

1. Lina Scheynius’ photography. I stumbled upon this gem while going about my daily online routine. Her photos are beautiful. They seem so personal to both the photographer and the subjects. The black and white + natural lighting, the candidness and the Adam-and-Eve-before-they-discovered-nudity-and-shame demeanor of the subject just displays an honesty we can hardly ever find today.

My uploads are a form of injustice to the creators and their actual works. For the original
versions of the photos above plus more of Scheynius' photography, do drop by her site

2. Designer/Fashion ingénue Hedi Slimane’s London Teenage Portfolio feature for the January ’09 issue of Dazed and Confused magazine. Considering Slimane’s self-professed love for the teenage culture in Londontown, this type of feature is something you’d expect from him while retaining the edge of the idea and the kids he used as subjects. Actually, edge is incorrect…it’s more of sincerity. The models were plucked from the streets and put in front of the camera. Thus, they’re really legit, “it”, and cool cool cool.

(my uploads really are atrocious, so just check this out for the full feature + original photos)

I'm on the hunt for more awesome photographs and everything else that's inspirational. I'll be back with tricycle driver fashion, laser tag and my new solemates soon.

'tis the season!

I haven't posted anything since putting up this blog because school was pretty hectic, with all the paperwork + thesis defense and revisions :|. Well that was a week ago, and now I am happy to announce that 2nd term SY '08-'09 officially ended for me yesterday and I am now free to enjoy temporary freedom in the form of Christmas break. Thesis defense actually went well, I'm going to be taking care of my revisions within the three week break, I'm finally turning 20 in a few days, the festive mood is being accompanied by so many little celebrations, and my family is off to Hong Kong, Macau and Szenzhen, China on the 28th. It's cold outside and I couldn't be more ecstatic about vacation! :)

Since I now have an ample amount of free time on my hands, here are some of the things I plan to do during the break:

1. Read for leisure! However ironic, we Literature majors don't really get to read what we want when there's school because of all the required texts. Thus, I'm really taking this opportunity to read some of the books/stories/non-fiction that have been on my reading list for quite some time now. However, I'm prioritizing a few titles...
  • Revisiting the Twilight Saga, specifically the first (Twilight) and last (Breaking Dawn) books. I've read all the books from the series more than once, since I did get into it before the whole hype that came along with the film started. I want to re-read the first book mainly because of the film and a film/book comparison I'm going to be conducting soon (much geekery!). As for the fourth book, I still have a lot of questions I'd like to find the answers to. Haha :P
  • Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary. It's considered one of the best novels of all time by critics and literary enthusiasts, and is a must read for my fellow bibliophiles.
  • Beowulf: The Script, by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avery. After hurdling through the unabridged epic back in first year I am more than happy to read the written-for-commercial-success version.
2. CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN. I usually don't have the time to clean my room and sort my
things because of school, so I want to go through my closet and arrange my clothes,
make my room as dust-free as possible, organize all my readings, papers,
etc. so I can file them and keep them in the attic, and see if I have anything I
can donate to charity this Christmas.

3. Go to simbang gabi. Although I didn't get to go this morning (meaning I won't get my
Christmas wish :[ ), I'm going to start later. I'm actually not very religious; I try to take
part in simbang gabi for different reasons. I enjoy the tradition, it's nice and cold out, and
the bibingka and tsokolate I get to have post-mass are so yummy. :)

4. Enjoy all the Christmas festivities with my family, friends and loved ones. There are so many dinners, reunions and parties to attend, and so much good food to eat, too :) (forgive me, I swear I'm starving myself after the holidays!)

5. Go on a crazy shopping spree in Hong Kong!My birthday falls close enough to Christmas so I get double the presents/money from my parents, relatives and godparents. Plus I have my own savings set aside just to prepare for this trip. I can't wait to indulge in some retail therapy! On my main shopping agenda : shoes (lace-ups and wedges are at the top of my list), bags, H&M, and all the other boutiques and shopping centers+night markets I've been able to look up online.

I hope you guys have your own plans for the Christmas season + New Year. Get some rest, stuff yourselves silly, give and receive the best gifts and have an awesome time with your loved ones!I'll be back with an update soon :)

Turn a new leaf

New space, new space.

I haven't really been utilizing my livejournal account for the past n months, mainly because school has been hectic and I've just been so out of it. I was browsing through my entries in joshi-yo last night and I felt like hurling. The experiences and emotions recounted on that blog were more tragic and angry rather than happy. I guess moving to another online turf is a pretty good idea, considering that I'm graduating after the coming term and (sorry for the cliche) I'm going to be starting a brand new chapter of my life. Blogspot has also been irking my curiosity (and my desire to be a little bit more technology-literate) for some time now. Modesty aside, I'm actually pretty impressed with the fact that I was able to create my own account and tweak a little bit of the settings. I know it's easy enough for most people, but I swear I am that technologically challenged.

With this new start comes a promise to myself and to whoever actually takes interest in what I write, that I am going to blog on a more regular basis about more substantial things. I'm also hoping for more exciting adventures and insightful experiences to write about and share with other people.

Hoorah to a fresh start? :)
